"The devastation that we have seen unfold over the past 8 months in Israel and Gaza, with the deplorable terrorist attacks on 7 October and the subsequent terrible conflict in Gaza which has seen thousands of innocent Palestinians killed, has been horrifying. Around 1.5 million people have been displaced to Rafah where they are now under attack. The appalling hostage situation of Israeli and other citizens continues - with more than 100 people still held by Hamas.
The Liberal Democrats have been calling for an end to the conflict for a long time. We have been strongly advocating for an immediate bilateral ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict, recognising that there is no military solution to remove Hamas from Gaza.
Back in April, the Liberal Democrats also called for the immediate suspension of arms sale to Israel.
We continue to urge that international law is upheld and the rulings of international courts such as the ICC and the ICJ are respected.
We will lead a diplomatic push towards a two-state solution in Israel and Palestine based on 1967 borders, to deliver the security and dignity that Israelis and Palestinians deserve."
