Caabu Press Release: The EU must save lives in the Mediterranean

With estimates of already 1,500 dead in the Mediterranean in 2015, and the deaths of 3,400 in 2014, the overwhelming priority has to be to save lives. The EU must restart the rescue and it is vital that funding for state rescues is restored, before even more lives are lost. No European Government should make excuses to abdicate responsibility which puts further lives in jeopardy.

Party policy towards migrant deaths in the Mediterranean

What do the political parties say about the Mediterranean migrant deaths?

Conservative

David Cameron: “This has been a dark day for Europe; it really is horrific the scenes that we've all witnessed on our television screens, the loss of life.

"We've got to deal with the instability in the countries concerned; we've got to go after the human traffickers and the criminals that are running this trade.

1. I would like to see a Palestinian State recognised as part of a two-state solution. However, I am unclear how this can be done before there is a single authority in charge of the Palestinian territories (and one which also recognises Israel).

"In response to your questions:

1. I believe in a two state solution for the Israeli Palestinian conflict. As you are aware Parliament recently voted to recognise the state of Palestine. Our MP was absent from this vote.

Had I been your MP at the time I would have voted in this debate however on balance I believe I would have voted against the motion.
