February 2017

In February 2017, SNP MPs Tommy Sheppard and Margaret Ferrier and Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Secretary, Baroness Sheehan were part of a Caabu and Medical Aid for Palestinians delegation to the West Bank. A full report of the visit can be found here

Britain and Palestine: A Parliamentary Focus 2010-2015

Between 2010 and 2015, Caabu took 55 prominent British politicians on delegations to Palestine, including former Cabinet ministers such as Jack Straw, Andy Burnham, Liam Byrne, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Dame Tessa Jowell; a former Home Office minister, Nick Herbert and Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna. MPs who have been on Caabu delegations have secured debates on such issues as Palestinian statehood, development in Area C, and Palestinian child detainees. 

First new settlement, or just most recent?

Israel announced on 29 March it will be building a new settlement in the West Bank, called Amichai. On 20 June building started in the northern West Bank, near the already existing settlement of Shilo. In the 50 years that Israel has illegally occupied the West Bank, more than 600,000 Israelis have moved there - motivated by a mix of ideology, religion and the low cost of living.
