Accountability Matters: States Must Uphold International Law

After almost 6 months of violence in Gaza, on 25 March 2024, the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire to last during the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan. This was voted on by 14-1, with the US abstaining. 

However, what does this actually mean for responsible international actors dedicated to ensuring that international law is upheld?

The Britain-Palestine All Party Parliamentary Group hosted an online briefing on Tuesday 26 March at 1pm, on the severe escalation in torture of Palestinians, with Adalah and Addameer. Representatives from Adalah, Addameer and War on Want spoke about the surge in torture and other abuse perpetrated by Israeli personnel against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and detention centres in Israel, as documented by UN experts and Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organisations.

UK must stop selling arms to Israel: Caabu Director joins Oxfam in urging an end to arms sales and an immediate, permanent ceasefire.

Caabu Director Chris Doyle is among 54 signatories in an Oxfam open letter, urging the UK Government to immediately halt arms licences and exports to the Government of Israel, as a first step to secure a permanent and immediate ceasefire for all Palestinians and Israelis.

The Britain-Palestine All Party Parliamentary Group hosted an online briefing on Monday 18 March 2024 on the incarceration conditions and systematic rights violations of Palestinians in Israeli custody, with Physicians for Human Rights Israel. Naji Abbas, Director of the Prisoners and Detainees Department at PHRI, Oneg Ben Dror, Project Coordinator within the Prisoners and Detainees Department at PHRI, and Haya Abu Warda, International Advocacy and Resource Development Coordinator at PHRI, spoke at the briefing chaired by Dr. Philippa Whitford MP.

The UK Government must do more to prevent more death, destruction and degradation in Gaza: Caabu joins organisations in demanding action of the UK Government and MPs

In a full page advert taken out in the Times on 21 March 2024, with Gaza on the brink of famine, Caabu has joined other organisations calling on the  UK government to do more to prevent death, destruction and degradation in Gaza. 

The advert states and demands the following: 

If we want to save lives, tackle starvation and disease, as well as provide the best opportunity for all the hostages to be released, MPs should support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
