48 UK Parliamentarians write to Prime Minister urging increased pressure on Egyptian government to release British national Alaa Abd El-Fattah

A group of UK Parliamentarians have written a joint letter to British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on 29 January 2025, asking for increased pressure to be put on the Egyptian government to release British-Egyptian Alaa Abd El-Fattah. The letter follows Alaa's mother's hunger strike that has been ongoing for more than 120 days, and her health is now in a critical period.

Caabu Director Chris Doyle has written to the Foreign Secretary, calling for the lifting of UK sanctions on Syria. 

 

Dear Foreign Secretary

Given the historic events in Syria over the last two months, we would like to write to you regarding the transition away from the Assad regime and how the UK can help. In particular, we believe that the UK should consider the immediate lifting of all sanctions that impact the Syrian economy (e.g. in financial, energy and trade sectors) and urge other states to do likewise, especially USA and EU.
