Caabu Press Release:  Two months of Israel’s blockade of Gaza – the UK has to take action to save Palestinians from starvation

2 May 2025

The 2 May marks two months since Israel imposed a complete blockade on the 2.3 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip blocking all international aid including water, food, medicine and fuel.  It comes at a time when Gaza’s health-care system is on the brink of collapse as a result of Israeli bombardment of the health infrastructure.

This constitutes collective punishment imposed on a civilian population living under Israeli occupation for whom Israel has a legal and moral responsibility.  Israel has given no indication it will cease this major war crime, that forms part of the process of genocide it has embarked on.

Commenting on this, Caabu Director Chris Doyle stated: “This is as clearcut an example of using starvation as a weapon of war as you can have. Israeli Ministers have made clear this is a political decision designed to use starvation for force Hamas to surrender. It is totally in violation of the basic tenets of international law. The UK government including the Prime Minister has criticised the blockade as ‘unacceptable’ but criticism alone is way insufficient. It requires immediate action to stop Israel now.”

Ending the blockade has to be the first step in a credible process to obtain a lasting ceasefire.  It should include an end to all military operations, release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, leading to viable political process based on international law.

Ends...
