The following Conservative MPs have indicated that they are in favour of airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria.
Peter Heaton Jones (North Devon)
"I have always said that my strong instinct would be to support whatever our government, military and security services recommend as being the best course of action to keep Britain safe. If that includes military strikes against ISIS targets, and a clear case is made to justify them, then I will vote for them"
Nick Herbert (Arundel and South Downs)
Herbert will be voting in favour of airstrikes:
"Military action must be part of a wider strategy to eliminate ISIL and begin a peace process in Syria which sees Assad stand down. But peace requires ISIL to be beaten back."
Ian Liddell-Grainger (Bridgwater)
Liddell-Grainger will vote in favour of airstrikes:
“There are as many who are vehemently opposed to any UK involvement as there are who believe ... that there is a direct threat to the UK and that our only option is to degrade and destroy the IS stronghold. There is also the argument that if we shy away from joining others in the ongoing operation it will present IS with a massive propaganda victory."
David Lidington (Aylesbury)
Minister for Europe, David Lidington voted in favour of airstrikes. In a statement after the vote, he said:
"No-one in the Commons debate who spoke in support of the Government's position argued that military action on its own would bring peace to Syria, but I do not believe either that we can wait for a political solution before taking action to degrade the capability of Daesh, to deny them the freedom to move around, to hold territory, to train their fighters and organise fresh murders. In my view, the risks of inaction to our security and to the safety of British people are greater than those of action. I believe that it was right to support military action in the vote on Wednesday."
Scott Mann (North Cornwall)
"Ultimately we must act to defeat this evil organisation, and it has taken careful thought and consideration as well as taking feedback from constituents. I have every faith in our armed forces and security services to plan and carry out precise attacks that will help keep our country safe."
Johnny Mercer (Plymouth Moor View)
"After speaking extensively with Ministers, colleagues and constituents, considering both the actions to take now and the ones we must take to help rebuild Syria post-Isil, I am confident that voting in favour of air strikes today is the right thing to do."
Guy Opperman (Hexham)
“With UN backing, and as part of a package of measures to combat IS, I will be supporting this motion today - the UN calls on all countries to do everything possible to eradicate IS and the UK should play its part as we already do in Iraq.”
Henry Smith (Crawley)
"I will be voting for what I believe is the right course of action for the United Kingdom to take in protecting us at home and vulnerable victims of ISIL/Daesh – the children, women and men as well as minorities in Syria."
Derek Thomas (St Ives)
"The easy choice is to vote against action in Syria. We have seen minority groups including Christians, who once made up 8% of the population brutalised and murdered. I trust the information given by the Prime Minister, the Defence Secretary and the Foreign Office Secretary who say that now is the right time to take action and help to rebuild Syria."
Anne-Marie Trevelyan (Berwick-upon-Tweed)
Writing on her website, Trevelyan said:
“Under an international UN-backed framework, nations who want to ensure our values, must fight together to eliminate those terrorist groups who threaten our modern world.”
Dr Sarah Wollaston (Totnes)
"I will be voting to stand with our allies in extending air strikes against Isil, wherever they hide. It has not been an easy decision because, whatever the accuracy of our weaponry, the innocent are likely to be among the victims of future bombing. [But] Isil cannot be reasoned with and it shows no shred of humanity or mercy to those under its barbarous control."
