MPs call for consequences on Egypt if Alaa Abd el-Fattah is not released from prison

UK parliamentarians have called for consequences on Egypt if Alaa Abd el-Fattah is not released from prison, given consular access or is allowed to die in custody.

During COP27, pro-democracy activist and British-Egyptian citizen Alaa Abd el-Fattah was raised by both the Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy MP and Green Party MP Caroline Lucas at Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Questions on 8 November 2022. Alaa is currently on hunger strike in prison in Egypt and on day 3 without water.

On 9 November 2022, there were also questions in the House of Lords about Alaa Abd el-Fattah, answered by Lord Tariq Ahmad, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister responsible for the Middle East.
