Caabu appalled by the attack in Westminster

23 March 2017

Caabu joins with all those who have condemned the appalling attack on Westminster on 22 March.  Such extremist violence will not work and the reaction of everyone in London has shown that this will not intimidate them nor prevent them from carrying on their lives as usual.

Our thoughts are with the families of those whom lost loved ones, and those suffering critical injuries.  We wish them well.

Both Caabu Director, Chris Doyle, and Parliamentary Officer, Joseph Willits were in Parliament at the time of the attack.  “We would both like to pay tribute to the fantastic work of the police, the security services and Parliamentary staff.  Our work takes us to Parliament the whole time and they put their lives on the line to keep everyone safe. ”

In media interviews, Doyle echoed the message of the Prime Minister and other British political leaders in stressing that “it is vital that Britain remains united and remember that the people who support these attacks are not representative of any faith community or faith.”

Writing in the Arab News, Chris Doyle also highlighted that they stood in solidarity with other peoples who had suffered. “…. when the dust settles, people should remember that despite all the horror in Westminster, this is but a small fraction of the almost daily terror experienced by people in Syria or Iraq, for example, and that Muslims are still far and away the biggest victims of Al-Qaeda and Daesh. That is one reaction that can knock back this extremist menace.”

Caabu is determined to redouble its effort to increase understanding and respect between communities, and to do everything to ensure that such appalling acts do not succeed.
