Legacies

Let a legacy speak for you

The Middle East is in growing crisis and the need for the vital work of the Council for Arab-British Understanding (Caabu) is increasingly felt across the region, whether in the growing failure of the democratic process, the marginalisation of civil society or the widespread abuse of human rights.

Caabu is a small, independent organisation and our survival depends on donations and subscriptions from our members and supporters.   To deliver on our remit to push for a British Middle East policy that promotes conflict resolution, civil rights and human rights across the Middle East requires substantial financial resources alongside human and material ones.

Without our supporters and the vital contribution you make, we simply could not continue to deliver our programmes and make the effective contribution we achieve, through our parliamentary, outreach, media, educational and research programmes.

How your legacy can help

Many of our supporters generously help us during their lifetime but their ability to give must always be in balance with other obligations.

Providing for Caabu in your Will offers a one-off opportunity to make a lasting impact on the people and causes we promote and which you care deeply about and support.

Legacies do not always have to be in cash, but can be many different types of asset, from physical and intellectual properties to individual or collections of valuable objects.

Substantial legacies give our organisation the capacity to plan and implement projects and take up opportunities which we might otherwise not be able to; they offer a vital lifeline to the longer term sustainability of our organisation and its valuable work.

Your legacy choices

By leaving a legacy in your Will you are leaving the gift of a lifetime.

It is an opportunity to do something positive in your lifetime to make an invaluable contribution to our work in the future.  So please consider Caabu when you decide who you would like to benefit from your Will.  There are several ways you can support Caabu in your Will:

Pecuniary

You can gift Caabu a fixed sum of money.

Residual

After making provision for your family and friends, you can leave a proportion of your estate to Caabu.

Reversionary

This is left to the descendent but reverts to Caabu after their death.

Your Next Steps

We recommend that you visit a solicitor to make your Will or amend your existing Will.

If you simply want to add on a legacy, this could be done by drawing up a Codicil, which is then kept with the original copy of your will.

Informing us if possible

You do not have to let us know if you have left Caabu a legacy in your Will, although we appreciate it if you can. By doing so it gives us an indication of future support and helps us plan for the mid and longer term.

You can advise us by completing the attached form and returning it to us or send us an email and let us know of your intentions.

Any information you do give will be treated in the strictest confidence.  Thank you for your generous support.
